Botanical Gardens know the value of Compost

Wakehurst Place, the outstanding botanical garden with the world’s largest seed conservation project, the “Millennium Seed Bank,” has become the latest establishment to adopt IMC’s pioneering food waste recycling system. Leased and run by the Royal Botanical Gardens at Kew, Wakehurst Place is internationally renowned for its combination of formal botanic gardens, extensive tree collections and its important plant conservation work. With more than a billion seeds collected for future plant preservation, Wakehurst Place is a globally important site for plant conservation and research and attracts thousands of visitors every year.

Food waste from its licensed restaurant and café, and from the weddings and functions that are regularly held at the premises, will be converted using IMC equipment into high quality compost for use on the grounds. The equipment, which includes an IMC Food Waste Disposer, “WastePro” Dewaterer and In Vessel Composter, will be installed to coincide with the significant increases in visitor traffic as Spring arrives at the National Trust’s most visited property.
