Recycling
Composting is a well-established, natural method for treating organic materials to produce a product that is free of pathogens and high in nutrients and can therefore add valuable organic matter to improve the soil. It features high on the Government’s preferred recycling solutions.
An on-site In Vessel Composter (IVC) enables waste producers to adopt a 100% sustainable approach to the disposal of their food waste thereby ensuring its diversion from environmentally unfriendly landfill or incineration plants.
Following maceration and dewatering, food waste is recycled into high quality compost in around 6 weeks.
By providing the ideal conditions in which microbes can act upon the food waste, IVCs fufil the essential requirements for producing high quality compost.
In Vessel Composter
The in vessel composter typically comprises a horizontally orientated rotating cylinder and air circulation and ventilating systems. The feedstock is periodically turned, heated and ventilated automatically.
Food waste is loaded, together with a bulking agent, at the front end of the IVC and compost is automatically discharged at the other end several weeks later.
In vessel composters are available in a range of capacities relative to the volume and type of food waste that is being processed.
